Freederm, is it worth the money?

Since I stopped taking the pill my skin has been horrid basically it seems to have returned to how it was when I was a teenager. I'm getting tons of spots, and although I can do a reasonable job of covering them with make-up they are really getting me down.

I keep seeing freederm advertised on the TV and wondered just how good it is? I went the chemist today and they had a gel for spots and a cleanser for your entire face, but they were almost £9 each!!!:eek::eek::eek:

So I wondered just how good freederm is?
-Is it worth the money?
-Is it very drying (my skin can be a bit sensitive)?
-Is it better to get the gel, the cleanser or both?

Thanks

Hi, Freederm gels works (or it did with me) but I did find it very drying. It doesn't however clear blackheads and/or stop spots forming, IMO you would be better getting something prescribed from the doctors as this will cost you less in the long run.

I do not think that it worth the £9.00 they ask for it. Your skin sounds just like mine. I went to the docs, got prescribed Zineryt (sp) which is drying but not to harsh, I also invested in Lush ultra bland and dream cream (a tad pricey but last for ages) and my skin is now amazing.

I also opted for some micro dermabrasion which can be pricey however check your local beauty colleges as they sometimes do it for as little as £25 a session. I was lucky enough to be needed as a model for it.

  • i didnt realise it was that much! my sister uses it as she gets quite large spots and she says it does help a bit and takes the redness away etc but is drying out the skin.

  • I used to grind my teeth when people went on about teenage spots.....yeah right when I am in my 20's and 30's I should have wonderful clear skin

Anyway whilst some of my spots are related to my hormones the biggest thing that has cleared up my skin is my mineral make up. Made a huge difference to the quality of my skin. I use Lily Lolo but there are other companies on the web you can try, Elemental Beauty is one.
Hope you can find a solution to suit you.

  • Hi everyone.

I agree with the mineral makeup tip, and also to see your doctor. My skin never used to be too bad until I reached 22 then it went completely mad. I tried a lot of things to get it sorted out myself, including mineral makeup and also Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish which I swear by, as well as her Skin Repair Light moisturiser. However, despite a marked improvement with these, it wasn't until I sought medical advice that it cleared up completely.

I can't emphasise enough, just go to see your local gp. I said to the nurse about how I felt a bit of a wall at 24 asking for acne help, but as I'm now training to be a teacher I felt it would be beneficial if my skin was better than that of the kids! She basically said if it's getting to the point of you feeling down about it then that's when they need to step in. I now use Dalacin T solution on my face, and while she said it can be a tad drying, I've had no adverse affects at all, apart from the horrid smell! My skin is now 100x better than it was.

So by all means try a few things, in the long run some targeted medical intervention may be the best thing.

Also watch your diet, I've read some people can be reactive to various types of food, e.g. dairy, alcohol etc, so it might be worth looking into that too!

    Good luck!

Freederm, for me is one of the best products I have, a thin layer of the gel every other night keeps my life long spotty skin free from any kind of blemishes 98% of the time, a true miracle for me, I dont believe that any other product for spots has the same ingredient that Freederm does(nicotinamide), please correct me if I am wrong, I would love to know. If I do happen to have a larger spot one or two applications of the gel takes it right down with minimal flaking. I have the cleanser but didnt think much of it and dont really need it now I do the ocm, however I would highly recommned the gel, you can buy a smaller size in Boots that cost about £5:)

I find that Panoxyl face wash works better than anything else, even the stuff thats been prescribed for me. It costs about £7 and you can buy it from most pharmacies but you have to ask for it.

Its worked wonders so far for me :)

I personally find Freederm ok but I have had better results using Quinoderm facial wash and cream. The cream cost me £2.30 from the pharmacy at Tesco and I bought the face wash off Ebay although I'm sure they do it at the pharmacy counters too.

My skin went mental went I came off the pill and just as I was about to go to the doctor to see what they could give me I found out I was pregnant so of course they wouldn't prescribe me anything. My next stop was Quinoderm and it has worked wonders - plus it hasn't dried out my skin either.
