Weekend job hunting starts today!

Later on I will post my progress report (it isn't looking too hot) - but I need some help and advice re weekend jobs.

I've made a list of companies/shops etc in my area and I plan to start ringing them and finding out if they have anything on offer. I am quite keen to stay relatively local to reduce on petrol and to avoid having to travel far.
Do you have any advice about what companies to tackle etc and how to approach it when I ring up? I am happy to do either Saturday or Sunday (evenings are unlikely) for the forseeable future and I can offer customer service, admin and marketing skills.

I've been putting off getting a second job long enough enough, I have got myself into too much of a pickle to avoid it any longer!

Try local papers - they are proving fruitful here in Manchester!

    Good luck!

  • Hi Miffi,

Keep your eyes and ears to the ground! I haven't really been looking for a second job but was getting disillusioned with eBay and am running out of things to sell/interest in my crafts.

I went to the garden centre at the weekend with my mum (don't worry, this story is going somewhere...!) and saw a notice that they were looking for weekend staff in their tearoom. I rang up and got through to the woman yesterday - she wants me to be a supervisor because of my vast age (26!) - something I didn't even think about and best of all, its one weekend on, one weekend off - so perfect! I really didn't like the idea of having every weekend tied up, even if it was just for one day.

Its a lovely place, really happy with miles of beautiful flowers and plants and it smells beautiful! The tearoom has tables and chairs outside and serves homemade cakes and sandwiches and fruit juices - I'm really looking forward to Sunday when I'll get my trial!

Not sure if this is helpful, but just wanted to tell you my story. Anywhere you like (pub, restaurant, garden centre) that you wouldn't mind working so it wouldn't seem so hellish, working two jobs?

HTH and good luck! Let us know how you get on and I'll do the same!
