i have been off work since march/april 2010 also
infact your story was like reading my own story!
i have been suffering from anxiety and depression but i also have a chronic lung disorder and i have been very ill.
no one in my team at work like me because ive been off for so long and its made it all more difficult for me to go back as im so nervous and anxious.
i was off for 6 months in 2008 and returned to work for 2 months in january-march and then went off sick again until now as i struggled to cope at work, i returned too early.
However im due to go back in january 2010..
Im on ESA, DLA higher rate...
BUT i feel like quitting the job.....
i asked my manager if i could move to another department but he said thats not something he can do for me
i havent had a penny holiday pay this year, do you think i would be entitled to any if i resign?
or if i carry on being employed but off sick do i lose all my sick pay entilements for 2009? as i do know it cant be carried over and you cant get holiday pay whilst off sick
my heart says quit my head says dont quit because i will never get to earn 20 grand a year again at my young age (25)
all the other jobs i have been applyin for are minimum wage = 12-13 grand a year
i would go back if the people were nice, but they have been there for 10 years plus and are all set in their ways
I have no work friends or anyone i could go to for help
I loved the job originally when i first started as a new team of 15 but all bar one of that 15 members have since quit the job.......
I dont know what to do
If i go back my condition may worsen, if i dont go back i lose a very high paid job0 -

Surely Surely your health is more important than an extra 10k a year!!!

Sometimes we only learn this the hard way.

I would agree with all of the above.
There are many people that would advocate not resigning and waiting until you are dismissed, but I would seriously consider the effect this would have on your health. I would also think about future employment, and the possible impact of having been previously dismissed for health reasons.
I do feel for you, I have been in your position. However from an employers point of view, I would be seriously questioning whether you can fulfil your work duties on a long term basis.
This is good advice.
Another possibility may be to try and reach a compromise agreement. This would cost the employer less than if the OP pushed it to the bitter end but cause him / her less stress. A Compromise Agreement would normally include an agreed reference.0 -

You need to ask for a breakdown of your pay calculation.Gone ... or have I?0 -
I totally agree that you need to ask for a breakdown calculation.
I also just wanted to post to give you some friendly support. Try to find the positive (so difficult, I know) in this situation. Your past empoloyment is indeed now that, in your past. In my opinion, you need to take the time now to concentrate on your health and getting better. Don't put pressure on yourself about employment at the moment, that will come naturally when you start to recover from your illness.
Once you're ready there are options which include permitted work (paid and voluntary, under 16 hours) which will not have an effect on your ESA. Speak to your personal advisor at dwp about this. Doing something along these lines may help with confidence and may also help you think about career options. If the industry that you were in previously is likely to exasperate your condition (example, anxiety disorder and working in target driven sales environment) then it would be wise to think of a change of career, and permitted work may help you do this.
If you decide to take on paid employment over 16 hours when your health care team and personal advisor feel this is appropriate then you will recieve close to the 20k salary that you had before.
Breakdown (Weekly)
Net pay from employment £92.80 (16 hours at nmw)
Working tax credit £105.49
Declared Benefits (DLA) £89.00
Net weekly income £287.29 plus £40 per week back to work credit
Obviosly this is dependent on you still recieving DLA. Once your care needs become less, the DLA will reduce or stop altogether BUT by then you should be in a position to be working more hours to make up the shortfall.
Wishing you a happy festive period.0 -

You can only work up to sixteen hours on ESA i.e. 15 hrs and 59 mins. If you are working sixteen hours you will need to end your ESA claim.Gone ... or have I?0
