Alliance and Leicester Close Accounts of People Who Charges

But don't be! Open that second account and go get the barstewards!
Not necessarily - hopefully what will happen is the 'charge reclaimers' will find it more and more difficult to get any bank to give them an account and it will serve them right.0 -

There isn't a national register of charge reclaimers. I watched this story on telly and was personally disappointed with the gentleman from one of these agencies who encourage people to take the banks to court. Instead of taking his bank to court to settle this issue through president he settled out of court for £5,000. Even though his fees only come to something like £600.00. So he campaigns until the bank buys him off. Some campaigner that.0 -
I'm really glad now that I cancelled opening my account with them. What a close call!!0

Pickle make sure you open a current account with them first though to get the FREE £25 and then close the account. Double whammy!"Debt makes plans for you" - A quote from my friend Catherine. How true!0

I noticed that announcement in the Metro this morning. I have to say though that Alliance + Leicester's customer service is quite a step better than either LloydsTSB or HSBC. Their charges are mostly on par, and in a lot of cases cheaper than either those high-street banks.
Let's just say that A+L paid me in my first month with them (thanks to MSE's suggestion) more interest on my account balance than LloydsTSB had for the entire time I had my account with them. And that LTSB account has seen the same share of salary payments etc that the A+L account has.

Doesnt that break rules the banks have to agree to ?0

Disagree (shock horror). When bank account was opened charges were £10 a time, they jumped to £20 then £25 and £35 so no I didn't sign up for the charges. Yes we looked at moving accounts but the other banks had roughly the same charges.Barclaycard 3800

But when I was working in a bank ( 1984-90 ) charges ( about £12 in 1990 if I remember) were levied against each transaction, ( btw one of the reasons I left was I was not happy with regional management instructing us to keep hitting charges harder and harder, and manually/ fraudulently increasing the transactional charges that also applied if you ever went overdrawn- remember this were in excess of the "penalty charges" )
appears most banks now cap there charges to a set amount each month, and also offer some "getouts" - like not if first time this year, or a small buffer.Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -

Thats almost like saying that its ok if someone burgles your house and you report it to the police, the culprit gets arrested, then when they get out they target that you again!
In effect what the bank is doing is stealing!
Just because they are a big corporation doesnt make it right0 -
