Opened a bottle of our homemade plum wine on Sunday evening. Let's just say that there is now none left and it was delicious. We both really enjoyed it. Got another 5 bottles. :T:T
He is going to make elderberry wine, blackberry wine and some more plum wine very soon.:j:j
Oh can you give me the recipe for Blackberry wine too when your OH is back
Do you need a lot of kit for making wine? Never done it before......I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

My OH got the recipes off this website

and

You do need demijohns and wine bottles and corks and airlocks and plastic tube syphon and a few other bits and bobs.
He has been making wine for years, so it's easy for him.
Here is another good website..

After getting some inspiration from this board, I went out and got 2lb of blackberrys, noone else was taking them so I thought why not. I am going to wait a week or two for some more to ripen so I can make some jam, never made it before but seems easy- ish!0

I've been out with my dogs looking to pick blackberries, but they are not at all ripe around here . My DD wants to have a go at making blackberry jam as presents, but she doesn't want to buy her blackberries at Tescos!KEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:0 -
River cottage have just brought out a new handbook called Hedgerow or there's the foragers "bible" Food For Free.
I read a review of the RC book today on one of my favourite blogs and couldn't resist buying it. I can't wait for it to arrive :j. While out looking for blackberries today I found 3 eating apple trees growing wild, a crab apple tree and some wild fennel which I'll definitely revisit in the spring. I even managed to talk my OH into a second walk today to hunt for stuff. Off to make some apple and bramble cordial from the above blog"Who’s that tripping over my bridge?" roared the Troll.
"Oh, it’s only me, the littlest Billy-goat Gruff and I’m going off to the hills to make myself fat"0 -
It's on my wish list. Got to wait until next week before I can order it though. I love the RC handbooks. I have the preserves and seashore books and can't wait to add this one to the collection!0

If you make sloe gin you can remove the sloes after 3 months and then either add them to cider to make a beverage called slider or to a cheap sherry [this needs to be shaken daily for 3 weeks before removing the fruit] to make sloe sherry.
Waste not want not:D

What a great thread! It has inspired me to improve on my usual half hearted attempt at blackberry picking!
This morning I managed to gather 980g of blackberriesHave made 2 jars of jam, plus a bitleft over for jam tarts tomorrow and some blackberries left for another blackberry and apple pie;)
Then went walking with the dog tonight, and went a route past a tree I remembered in the spring was covered with lovely blossom(actually took pic of the kids in front of it!)
and discovered it was COVERED in lovely little yellow cherry plums:D:D Gathered some, but think I will go back for more tomorrow, the tree is absolutely laden with them, and they are begining to fall to the floor and get walked into a squishy mess...such a waste...
Also saw another great place for yet more blackberries.....
Now need to find some apple trees....oh and some more jam jars...:rotfl:
Such a great feeling foraging and storing away :T0
