joint mortgage trouble

Have trouble with a daughter who was in a joint mortgage - the couple have now split and the man has absconded to another town without leaving details. We've only got his mobile phone number now which he hasn't changed but other than that he has completely severed contact. We need to sell the house but as he is jointly named on the mortgage we need to get him to take his name off it before we can sell. Any ideas?

In a word, no.
You can't just take somebody's name off a mortgage without their agreement or that of the lender. Lender's will only agree to one of the party taking over the whole of the mortgage providing their salary can support the loan. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
