SADLIGHT

  • I suffer with m.e which has similar symptoms but different causes to depression, unfortunately some GPS still think that its the same thing, a few people are helped by antidepressants though. What symptoms do you find are the worst with depression?

Be happy to talk more about the ME/CFS and depression and the latest research but not in this thread which was really about taking advantage of the Tchibo Sadlight offer.
If you repost your ME/Depression query in Marriage, Relationships, Health, Babies and Families I'll put an answer there.

  • Have you had glandular fever in the past? Have you come across the theory that m.e can caused by the body not absorbing nutrients from food properly - which can be an after effect of glandular fever? My daughter had Glandular fever so I have been doing a lot of research about all this (she also suffers from depression - had a bad bout before getting G.Fever) I try to get her to take mega supplements but she is a teenager.......

Yes! I did have GF a few years before the m.e I also did a lot of research and take as much supplements as I can afford (main ones are magnesium, fish oils, high strength multi, B5)

I had it 15 years since age 18, I work but only p/t, tried allsorts of things and antidepressants didnt help me. Personally I think my immune system was burned out by overtraining and I took a drug called Ro-Accutane which contributed to it. Your theory is interesting. Perhaps we could continue it by email or if someone wants to move this part of the thread to the health forum (have just looked in there and could not see it)

  • Thanks for this. I've been looking for a reasonabley priced SAD light for a while.

I suffer with severe depression, but stopped taking anti-depressants last August, when I found out I was pregnant. Although my doctor told me I could go on taking them, I thought I would try to control it without them. This has been made so much more difficult over recent months when the weather has been bad. I've noticed a big difference in my mood on grey days. It seems like we've had many grey days one after another, making it almost impossible to function sometimes.

I'm hoping this will go someway to relieving the symptoms.

    I have started a topic 'M.E, depression + glandular fever link?' http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Families;action=display;num=1105350747;start=0

Anyone want to meet me there?

Yes, I URGE you to try it. I have never heard of any harm coming to anyone from one of these, and it really does cheer people up. Also, despite the drab days at the moment, it really is worthwhile to go out for a 20 minutes walk every day. Maybe a walk to the shops, or whatever. Even on drab days, there is a lot of natural light around.

    Good luck!
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I have suffered from depression / panic attacks for nearly 20 years. Prozac makes me worse! I have been on Anafranil for some time & it works somewhat.

On a dull grey day, I light the fire (coal & wood) & it seems to lift my mood. Cheaper than a light box.
    Nice to save.

I can't remember now, but I think that some of the manufacturers will hire you a light box for a short period on the basis that you can then buy it if it works for you. Hire costs are pretty low iirc.

There's also a SAD association, called SADA iirc.

Sitting in front of my light box as I type this, and about to go out for a walk IF it bloody well stops raining!

As said they have a information pack how to hire the lights etc.

I am interested in one of these myself but its quite an investment to have a lamp.
