Using Mincemeat in Christmas Pudding?

Hi,
DS2 wants to make Christmas pudding this weekend as apparently it's Stir-Up Sunday. I've had a look at the Christmas pudding recipe I have at home and the ingredients list is as long as my arm. I'm working to quite a tight food budget just now and was wondering if I could substitute all the fruit etc for ready made mincemeat to save a bit of time and money?
Cheers,
veersix.

Mincemeat also contains suet, sugar, apple and spices, so you'd need to allow for that too

It is, but when people discuss Christmas pudding, the fruit they refer to is usually of the dried variety
I just wanted to make this clear as the OP mentioned saving money. :rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
I use it in fruit cake - it makes a really nice moist fruit cake (Delia's Simnel cake recipe) so I see no reason why you couldn't use it in pudding

This recipe uses mincemeat instead of dried fruit, but it says to make it at the last minute so I don't know whether you'd be wanting to cook it this early
