Hi there, I'm new, not sure if anyone can help but I have just bought and moved into a small 1860's cottage, solid walls and wooden windows. It has an old oil boiler central heating system which really is on it's last legs. Can anyone pls point me in the right direction for getting any financial help to replace it with some kind eco friendly heating system? Also what system would you reccommend?
Thanks
Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
The only scheme I know of is Warm Front http://www.warmfront.co.uk/ if you qualify.
What do you mean by eco heating?0 -
I remember seeing wind turbines and solar panels for sale in B&Q and they said you got grants off the govt towards them. That was probably 2/3 yrs ago, if it still applies.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Have a look at energy saving trust (EST) that should point you towards the Low Carbon Building Programme (LCBP) Or DECC Depatment for Energy and Climate Change, where you can get a grant of up to £2,500, depending on what technology you go for, AFAIK every house is entitled to the grant, however, forget about turbines and Solar thermal, (waste of money) but look at the £900 grant for the Air to Water Source Heat Pump technology, (Altherma, Ecodan, sanyo Co2) but be aware that ASHP's are quite a bit of money to start with (from between £4K & £5K for 2 - 3 bed bungalow/house and £6K & £9K for 4 -5 bed house fully installed), you can't use the grant for just replacing like for like oil/gas boiler. I think you'll find now that when you replace an oil boiler, the engineer will look at the oil tank and if it is old, metal, or single skin, you will be advised to replace this as well, (extra cost) also if the hot water cylinder is just as old you might want to consider replacing that as well. all replacement heating systems have to be notified to LA Building control, and signed off, Thermostatic radiator valves will need to be fitted to all rads, Programmer/timeclock may need replacing/fitting so the costs of replacing the oil boiler can end up being more than an Air to Water Heat Pump installation, you must do some research or you will find you start off being told the oil boiler will cost you £xxx and £xxx to fit it, then £xxx for the oil tank, Oh and £xxx for powerflush of rads or you won't get the guarantee on the boiler or comply with building regs, when you try to get it signed off, they will require the installation complies.
Times have changed and we all now have to look at what fuel we use, the future cost of running the appliance, and the impact on the environment, its not someone elses responsibility, while there is a chance to make a difference when replacing a boiler, we must all consider what alternatives there are. we are borrowing this planet from our children! good luck, Hope you get it sorted. There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

Thanks for your help, it really is a nightmare. We all need to start making a difference but it isn't made easy for anyone. More info and help needs to be circulated by the government to aid the dippy un-experienced and slightly bonkers people like me! I'd better start saving my pennies.0
