I'm not sure whether this is the right place, but I don't know where else to post...

I just googled myself to check the privacy on my linkedin profile, and I came across a site which had collated lots of info about me gleaned from the web. One of the entries was a blog entry detailing my full name, address, complete credit card details, home phone no. and email address . It had hundreds of other people's details too. It's a week or so old.

How can I get this removed? My credit card was used for fraud recently (no wonder!) and has been cancelled, but my address, phone no., email etc. are still the same. Should I change my email address?

I tried to call my bank's fraud line but it's only open during office hours (cos all fraudsters call it a day at 6pm, don't they?).

Has this happened to anyone else?

for getting the information removed from the blog, it depends. can you give me a link please/

i would change everything - email address, usernames, passwords, secret questions, everything. maybe even your phone number if that is practical

i would also check your antivirus - make sure its working and up to date. i'll try to find some guides on spotting dodgy sites as well - here is one to start with

as for the suggestion of the police - i wouldn't bother personally. the internet is global, and the police have little knowledge or experience of the internet tbh

No but if someone uses the details from tonight to open a credit account or anything, she will have a police reference number, WHICH the MAJORITY of all credit card companies request youto report to the police nowadays

Thanks to both of you. My card was already cancelled before the blog entry was made, but I'm still worried about my address etc.

I just phoned the stolen cards line and alerted the bank. They reckon they'll be able to get the site taken down. I don't want to post a link on here as it's highly senstive information and I don't want to share it further. it has lots of customers' info.

They recommended that I change all passwords and security info and get credit checks done from all the main companies to see whether anyone's tried to open more acounts or cards in my name. The bank actually recommended this site for looking up the credit check companies ;)

Oh yes, and a thorough virus check on my PC, as bikerboi suggested.

Honestly, this makes me wish I'd just had an old-style paying-in book!

    Phone bank - cancel card......

Call police, give them link to site, and get the to give you a reference.

do virus scan, plenty free online scans.

Make sure firewall is on, an ensure windows bit defender is running.

Not till the above steps are done, do not change any passwords, in case they have access, and you will then be just giving them your new ones.

    Change emails first
    then internet banking
    and online credit card passwords
    then anything with financial information.

  • Aarrrgh, thanks. How complicated. Just had a rubbish day made even worse. But at least the card was already cancelled. Can't necessarily say the same for all those other customers.

You can also ask the credit repair companies to give you protection from people allowing to access your credit file for searches, i know experian put a password on account, and then if you go to open a credit account the dreditor has to know the password you have setup before they is allowed to do a search.

that reasonable. perhaps you can give me some information then

is it a blog on somewhere like blogspot? or is on somebodies own domain like ww w.me.com or something like that?

if its on blogspot, then get in contact with them (here is the one for blogspot - http://help.blogger.com/?page=troubleshooter.cs&problem=&contact_type=main_tos&Submit=Submit), or if its another blog provider, look on their site

if its somebodies own domain, then you'll have too look up the whois details (i use http://www.whois.sc for this) and look find out their host and report it to them. that is probably the quickest way of getting it taken down
