Raisins in alcohol

My MIL has kindly given me a jar of raisins she has been soaking in alcohol for a Christmas Cake. My only concern is that she put them in there probably around 5 years ago and forgot about them until she moved a few days ago! She can't even remember what they are soaking in!
My question is, will they still be ok to use? Wouldn't want to risk wasting all that booze now, would I?!

Five years???? Errr....I wouldn't be that keen, tbh. On the basis of texture, if nothing else. I know we don't want to waste food or money on here but really, how much does a jar of cheap rum or brandy and half a pound of raisins cost?Val.0

Surely they would be fine - alcohol is a preservative isn't it?
I would have to, at least, try them first

I would try one. I leave raisins in rum in my cupboard ready to do icecream and sometimes it gets longer than I want. Alcohol and sugar are preservatives"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
