Hand Cream

I opened a new hand cream last night to try it to see what it was like (not usual as I usually put hand cream on in the morning and don't worry about texture/greasiness etc). I smelt it in the jar first and it smelt lovely. I then put some on my hands (probably more than I needed) and got this waft of awfulness that actually made me feel quite ill. I tried washing my hands to get rid of the smell but could still smell it
My question is when I took the seal foil off I'm not 100% sure if it was sealed properly and whether the hand cream has actually gone off. I don't know whether to persevere with it but not use as much or bin it. I know usually the consensus is if it doesn't smell right bin it but in the jar it smells ok.

if you are unhappy with it, could you still take it back and mention this. - see what they say? i once took an eyemakeup remover back t boots - it was their cheap own make and i told them it was really oily and got my money back.
failing that and if it''s too yucky for your hands - you could use it up as a foot lotion!
(btw could we know which one it is - may be could check if the same happens to us if we could test it in the shop)0 -

All products will have a life span- you can check this on the tube somewhere where they have something like a cylinder picture with 12M or 8M or 18M or whatever (M= months).
Which brand was it? some brands just smell odd to some people- everyone seemed to love the L'Occitane hand cream with Marie Claire, I hated the smell! Maybe see if you can go back to the store and see if a tester sample is similar- but remember that not all beauty products will have a seal.0 -
I should have mentioned that I have had this hand cream for a while before opening it so I wouldn't be able to take it back. I bought it from Avon ages ago, it is the Planet Spa shea butter one. I was a bit disappointed that it smells horrible on my skin as I absolutely love the lip balm in this range.
Jennie, I don't know if there is a life span on the jar (I'll have to look) but I have used other hand creams older than this one and haven't had a problem. Like I said the I'm not 100% sure when I opened it that the seal was properly sealed.
I tried it again this morning but didn't put so much on and mainly used it on the back of my hands and fingers as my poor fingers are definitely noticing I haven't used hand cream for a couple of days and the smell wasn't as pungent. Not sure if I'll persevere though.
Claire, I am definitely not pregnant :rotfl:well at least I hope not :eek:Did owe £9,951.96
