retraction of resignation

  • You may find that the letter of resignation is difficult to retract - the exact same situation happened to work colleague 7 or 8 years ago, and there was no way out for them - they had to leave the company.

hi... due to me forseeing alot of time off work due to unforseen family issues i handed to HR my written 1 months notice. HR took the letter and over the next 2 weeks i had to have 5 days out of work. the situation at home has now been resolved . i wrote a letter to HR stating this and saying as they had not accepted the notice verbally or in written form i wished to retract it . 2hrs later i recieved a letter acepting my resignation and they said the original had been lost ..is this acceptable ??

Why didn't you say 'what original'?

They are under no obligation to acknowledge your resignation letter, no allow you to retract your resignation.

In the past I have had a grievance lodged against me where I did not accept a retraction.

I argued that when a employee quits there is a lot to do. I had paid to re-advertise the job, cancelled things to short list and interview and was in the advanced discussions with a replacement.

    I won.

And no doubt you actually wanted rid of the person too, right, Valder123?

OP - I'm afraid you have resigned

    This is a fact. .

The company for whatever reason (and it may not be personal, they may have been about to make a role redundant) will not allow you to retract it after the event. They do not have to consider this and they do not have to confirm anything.

Sorry. You have no grounds for anything here.

He would still be working for me if he had not handed in his notice.

Waiting 3 weeks of a 4 week notice term and changing his mind did not cut it.
