Colander and/or sieve. If only getting one make it the sieve, as colanders are no good for lentils, rice etc!

My sister is going to uni in Spetember and I've started a similar thing for her...
I've told her to buy these things cheaply (Woolies, Poundland, Home Bargains, Wilkos) etc when she gets there and knows what facilities she is provided with, rather than lugging everything down with her needlessly:
• 2-4 Mugs
• 2-4 Plates
• 2-4 Bowls
• Cutlery (Knives, Forks & Spoons)
• Potato Masher
• Cheese Grater
• Vegetable Peeler
• Sharp Knife
• Garlic Crusher
• Saucepan
• Frying Pan
• Bottle Opener/Corkscrew
• Sieve/Colander (if only getting one of these – make sure it’s the sieve!)
• Wooden Spoon
• Metal Spatula thingy for frying
• Measuring Jug
• Mixing Bowl
• Kettle
• Toaster
• Tea Towels and Dishcloths
• Tupperware Boxes of Various Sizes
• Chopping Board
• Tinfoil/Clingfilm
• Baking Tray (any provided will be manky!)
• Ovenproof Dish (for lasagnes etc)
I've also taught her about cooking for the freezer, the wonders of Stardrops, and other such useful information.
I have also drawn up a list of stuff she needs to take with her from home, and some store cupboard essentials which I'd be happy to email to people or post on here if wanted?0 -
How about a proper old style cleaning kit of stardrops, vinegar and micro fibre cloths. Wouldn't be without mine now.0

A wok - you can get them pretty cheaply. I use mine all the time. If she's new to OS maybe doing things that can go in one pan will be welcome. the frying pan could do at a push.0
