I've let my manager know unofficially and got the letter drafted however I'm not sure how to finish with getting a bit more, what it is that I intend my last day being 31/12/09 but the shop I work in is closed on 1/1/10,now if I leave on New Years Day instead do I get an extra days pay ?
There's no ill feeling between me and my manager just his boss is extremley difficult to work for (nothing ever right) and I'm looking to get a bit more from him.
I've had to rejoin as a different MSE'r and this is my 1st post as Twixeater but I need to remain anonymous.
Thanks so much

Have you got any annual leave left? If so you could leave on 02/01/10 and take a day's leave for 2/01/100

You're taking the p**s, right?
The employer will not let you get away with it, and rightly so - it is a blatant attempt to get extra money out of them, and they would be well within their rights to point out that 31 December is the last day of the year and what they would call a 'natural' final day for employment.0 -
There is no such concept as a natural last day. You're taking the p**s, right?

OP should decide on required last day and give notice according to required notice period. Informal contact with manager beforehand should establish whether leave is to be taken within notice or after.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. OP should decide IN CONSULTATION with the boss on required last day. No boss is going to go along with this blatant attempt at taking the mickey.
If one of my guys tried to pull this, they'd be given short thrift.0 -
Surely this also depends on what your notice period is in your contract?
Working hard in the hopes of being 'lucky'

It also depends on when your leave year starts/ends. If april to mar then you might have accrued the leave. If jan to dec then you won't.0

Thanks for all of your input,I am trying to take as much as possible within limits,I can see the problem it's raised.... but in my defence I can say that I've worked through many lunchbreaks/teabreaks and also done plenty of unpaid overtime this is why i'm thinking of the extra days' pay not purely the reason the the big boss is hard to work for just to get a little back for my time and effort,I'll chat with my manager to see what he thinks too.0

You wont get an extra days pay anyway.
Either you will need to work the day and earn it or it will be subtracted from leave. If there isnt enough accrued leave it will be deducted from your salary in most likiehood and in addition you will !!!! everyone off into the bargain by making it far more complex for everyone.0 -
If the employee chooses the day to give notice carefully, the person from the boss class might put themselves in the position of paying less than full notice. And dealing with the consequences.OP should decide IN CONSULTATION with the boss on required last day. No boss is going to go along with this blatant attempt at taking the mickey.
