This company is one of the worst in the business. If the OP had thought a bit quicker she would probably have found the debt was statute barred as most of what they handle is. Also, it isn't about the original creditor as it was clearly stated they had bought the debt, meaning the OC is out of the picture.

Sorry, OP, but you made the mistake of ever talking to this shower. You can rectify by never speaking to them again and most certainly never paying any money.

This firm contains nothing but ignorant bullies who wouldn't have a clue as to how to get a court claim off the ground, unless you are in Scotland too they would have to start in England. But check if the debt's statute barred.

Memo to everyone else, ignore these morons, they specialise in buying old, small, dubious debts for peanuts and trying to bully you verbally.... as above posters have found. They simply go away if you ignore them- I know from experience.

You could of course follow the suggestion of the last poster, good advice, but it IS a lot easier just to never get involved in the first place... in the fairly unlikely event they send someone to your door (never had it happen to me) tell them to go away or the Police will be called, and if they don't go dial 999. They won't be back.
  • Hi this is my first post and hoping someone can advise me. Scotcall sent someone to turn up on my doorstep today for a debt of £158.13 which originally started in 2006 from Oxendales.

I never had a letter from them and being honest thought this was paid off, it seems not. I had no idea anyone would turn up on the doorstep and it's made me a nervous wreck tonight. I told him I would deal with the company and he just left.

It was with another company I was paying called BCW but I missed a couple of payments from being ill and lost track of everything. I have an illness and my husband has bipolar, my son has the same as me and being honest my brains aren't where they're meant to be lately and I made the stupid mistake of ignoring things, thinking I would deal with it later and then something else took my mind ........... like taking my 14 year old for a bone density scan, worrying about everyone else being ok etc etc etc

I just don't want anyone back on the doorstep, my husband suffers with suicidal tendencies at the best of times and if the thinks we have a debt I dread to think what it will do to him. We're on income support £150 pw, just really don't want to be harassed and wondering why someone turned up without any warning whatsoever?? And who the hell am I meant to contact or pay??

    Hi,

I know not everyone has the ability. But, what I have done in the past 60 days was record all telephone calls I have had with banks and DCA's as we as the consumer will always get conflicting evidence.
I notify them after they notify me they "might" be recording. I have since sent the recordings to the OFT and FOS and seriously when you get the abuse you get from scot call having that recorded really does put you in a strong position.
how can the OFT and FOS ignore a recording especially when the DCA's and BANKs use the recodings aganst you the consumer.
I have had discounts and offers of compensation from 2 banks and massive discounts of upto and beyond 80% discount from 2 DCA.
it is worth doing and banks and DCA's hate and I mean hate it when they know you are recording them. I have one DCA refusing to deal with my account as I record them..(cool take that to court, as I can't wait for a rulling on it as you are refusing to deal with me).

    good luck

As i said to you on the other thread this company is pants. I have paid my bill and this company still harasses me. So I ask you why do these people harass people etc when they have done nothing wrong.
Don’t put it down - put it away!

I once had a debt collection agency hassling me for something that I had paid for up front.
It was for an X-ray I had as part of some all-inclusive dental work I had done at a BUPA hospital.
They simply would not accept that it was paid.
The consultant contacted them and told them it was paid, but they still persisted.
In the end the consultant's secretary went to the accounts department and got them to delete the record.
    Then they stopped.
    It took months.
