I think some people use EBid now. I have loads of stuff to sell, was on a roll for a while then got too busy to list things. Keep meaning to sign up to EBid and see how things go on there
I think I am the only regular poster on the ebid thread now and in 5 1/2 years I have only had one sale:

All of my listings finished last night, 3 items sold and i'm going to come out of it about £3 quid down all told.
Not much I accept, but when you're as skint as I am, it's certainly significant0 -
eBay's only real competitor is Amazon and they have a limited range of items.
So eBay are free to keep increasing prices knowing that most people will just accept it.0 -
Hi Nic!
I'm in the same boat as you I'm afraid, I'm simply astounded at how much eBay charge now!
I try to just stick to free listing days, as it really gets my goat when they charge me extra for this and that, and then don't let me charge for p&p on things such as a book, which is heavy! and costs a lot to post!
Hope you're okay

I think sticking to free listing days is maybe the way to go, but then some of the most basic listings on ebay don't cost anything to list - I listed 8 items a fortnight ago and my total fees were about £1.70.
I think the real way to go though is to just try and list things that you don't have to give free postage for.0 -
Same boat

After uni I had a few programming books to sell.. now, theyre chunky books, and 1st class RM is about a fiver, add to that the packaging (say £1) and £1.75 doesnt even come close to covering it. so i had to start the bidding at £5, which ups my final sale fee, ups my insertion fee, and also makes me look like a blagger. It also doesnt entice page views.
Although i did put in the description that the starting bid is £5 to cover postage as its a heavy book.
Its a real shame, as i quite liked ebay. one of the really good things with it that ive been doing recently however...
I was always annoyed that when i sold something i'd have to front the Postage from my pocket, then get it back from paypal, which takes like a week to transfer (takes seconds to take money FROM my account though.. go figure), but now i print the postage label from paypal, by popping in the weight and clicking a button! its a lifesaver if i have a few heavy things going on the same day!
jasonwatkins: thats all well and good, but when one is clearing out, generally the first things that go tend to be DVD's, Computer Games and Books.Credit card: [STRIKE]£2533.30[/STRIKE] £0 as of July '16!Overdraft: [STRIKE]£1700[/STRIKE]£0 as of July '16!Aim:Save for a working trip to New Zealand leaving late 2016/ early 2017!0 -

Of course I agree ..
Maybe it just needs someone to win the next big euro millions lottery and launch an auction website targeted at the people ebay are trying to drive away

I list my books as 99p then select 'heavy bulky/other courier' and list P&P as £1.60. Not had any problems yet.....0
