my credit rating?

You prob wouldnt get any worse than my credit rating. Whats the best thing to do cause i am completely lost.

Since all the bad things happened i have sorted my self out etc and not borrowing nothng etc etc.just paying back what i owe anyway.

I have 2 CCJ's
About 6 defaults
Missed payments on credit cards and mortgage ( 4 yrs ago )

All of this is on my file and i got alot of it within 2002 - 2005

so really alot of it wont come off until 2008.

Can i really wait that long or dont i have a choice?

PS: When i last got my credit file it said some of the things still had a current balance but they were paid off in full. take it this will affect my chances else where as they will think i still have finance with this company?

You have no choice in the matter whats written down will stay there on file for 6 years from the time it was placed on your file to that date 6 years later, whether you've Satisfied the Account or not.

Well done for doing your best to clear it and sorting yourself out though, I'm currently in a similar position, I've just had one default cleared which leaves me 2 to go.

How long has it been since you cleared the debt from some of the companies, I had to use a NOTICE OF CORRECTION to remove a paid off debt, the company I owed it to failed to update their information on to my Credit File for 3 months so I got Equifax to step in all you do is fill out a form and explain why you beleive the information on your CF to be wrong if after 28 days the disputed company fails to contact Exquifax or Experian (whoever you choose to use for the Notice of Correction) then the relevant information is removed off your file. I recommend you use this method.

Yes I too had a similar situation, whereby when I checked my Credit report with Experian and Equifax there were numerous defaults that I had finished paying but had not been marked as satisfied on the credit report, I disputed the information with the credit reference agencies and asked them tio be marked as satisfied some defaults were marked as satisfied after a month, however some were removed entirely as the offending credit provider had not repsonded in time!!

I got 3 defaults removed this way!

Can you give me more information on how you did that please? Im trying to remove a £17 default from a phone contract that is two years old.

Does the 'default' state that its 'Satisfied', or have they failed to update your details so it still says 'default' with money owing, cos if your 'satisfied' then it should remain on your file for 4 more years as defaults generally are on your file for a total of 6 years from when their placed on.

You can try and remove them by one of the following ways:

    1. Contact the Phone Company that gave you the default, giving details of your old account with them, see what happens. They may be good enough to remove the 'defaulted' account, I'd give them a month and then check your CF.

    2. If you read your CF it has a section on 'Notice of Dispute' this section informs you how to go about disputing any misguided information on your account. All you do is write to the CRA (or you can try doing this online), stating which company your querying, give as much details of the account, then within 200 words place your reasons for why you think you shouldn't have that information on your CF. Once that happens, and the CRA has got your 'dispute' they'll place a little note on your file stating that your not happy with that piece of information and that any compnay viewing your file shouldn't take it into account. The CRA gives the company 28 days to respond, if they fail to do so then the information is removed and your file improves.

I'm unsure what happens if the company does respond as I've never been in that situation.

    Hope that helps.

I had never known about the defualt until checked my credit file on experian, quite literally as soon as I found out I contacted vodafone and paid the defecit.

I think I may try writing to them to request that they remove the default . I think they have to supply with me a signed copy of the original default notice?

can someone clear this bit up for me

for example if i have a default and the company has passed it over to a debt collection agency does that mean once i pay it off with the agency it will be marked as satisfied?

Yes it will to a piont as the DCA is just the middleman and sends your repayments to the company you were originally in debt with. The DCA only collects your repayments on behalf of company you 1st signed with. It's the Original Creditor that updates the information on your Credit File once payments are received. Hope that makes sense.
