As some of you know, we've been keeping a pig for the last few months, and she'll be off for her journey from her acorn-field to our freezer in the next couple of weeks.

The carcase can be butchered to our requirements - anyone else who's bought a whole or section of a pig - what cuts should we ask for

I'm going to ask for the liver (to make casserole and pate) and the trotters (to make jelly for raised pies). As it's a busy time of year, we're going to ask for half the shoulder and belly to be made into pork sausages, and use some of the rest to make our own speciality sausages (such as pork and cranberry for the festive season :j ).

TIA, Penny. x

I've got no suggestions Pen but you've broken my heart posting a picture of her on here bigcry.gif

Whilst I am a meat eater there is no way I could rear and eat my own animal produce........I'd get too attached :o

  • Yeah I'm the same, I'd want to keep it as a pet and never eat it!
Dogs and Cats are better than kids because they eat less, don't ask for money... and if they get pregnant, you can sell their children!
  • Awww she looks so cute.

Yes she looks so happy. Poor piggy:cry:
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Sorry - are you all vegans

I'll remove her pic (and post it on the Flylady thread if anyone wants to look).

I know you're not having a go :A It's just that I asked a serious Old Style question, and the thread if filling up with chat that doesn't answer it ;)

No, sorry, don't know what you mean  You're happy to eat meat, but not able to connect that with what was a living, breathing animal
