I need to get specific laptops ordered for COLLECTION

There are a few laptops I have in mind but I want to collect them from a store, not order them and get them delivered. I wont go into the details of why this is a neccessity for me though.

Can anybody let me know of any shops which let you ask for specific laptops, they then order them for you and you can collect it? In particular I am looking for a place where I can COLLECT the MSI CX700 laptop or ASUS K70IO-TY002C .

Unfortunately you failed to give your location so I could suggest laptops direct in Huddersfield but if you down south I doubt you would want to got to Huddersfield just to pick up a £500 laptop.
  • Don't know about the specific laptops, but Tesco's Direct, PC World, Curry's, Comet all do instore collection. Also try Argos.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • im not surei trust currys/pcworld/dixons enough to get my laptops from there. its too easy for customers to buy laptops and return them making them look as if theyh are still sealed. that way sophisticated rootkit technology could be put on it which is very hard to remove. i need to make sure my laptops haven't been tampered with. i am happy to go to laptopsdirect, but is there any way i can ensure thety haven't been messed around iwth over there? the choice at argos/currys etc is very limited.

i guess huddersfield is an ok option, aslong as i could somehow make sure that things havent been tampered with. does anybody know what happens if you send back a sealed box to them? do they sell it to other customers still or do they open it and check for damage/drops. atleast laptops direct has more of a choice

i was hoping there is a place where you can order in specific laptops and collect them?..

That seems a lot of trouble for people to buy a computer install a programme then return it with no control over who is going to buy it next.
Try posting on the techies forum.
  • Sorry but it sounds like someone has ran out of tinfoil to make hats out of.

If your worried that someone has gone to the effort of rooting a laptop and returning it looking like it has been unopened then your probably better off with an abacus, slide rule and a pad and a pencil.
  • please dont be worried about the extent of my paranoia. my job requires it. to cut it short, i need a computer for work, so usign a ruler etc wont suffice. listing shops where i can buy a laptop would be useful for me, thanks. i wont go into the technicalities of tampering to justify this. what others apart from pc world/dixons/curries do this?

What you could do, is when you get the laptop, tell the shop your concerns and the reasons why and ask them for a harddrive wipe and fresh install of software to be done infront of you, when you pick it up (your best bet for this is contacting a small independant computer / laptop shop locally buy doing a google search, as these will usually be more accomodating and will be more than happy for the sale).
if i had known then what i know now

As you're in London I'd head up to the vast array of electrical stores on the Tottenham Court Road. Should be able to get what you want there.
