Mortgage question...

I'm going to see a mortgage advisor tomorrow, I only need a mortgage for £40,000 and he says "I charge a fee of £295 which is only payable if and when the mortgage completes." Is this an ok fee, he says he is whole of market or should I see a fee free advisor, I have a LTV of 35%?
Also I'm a ftb and all this is new to me so what other questions should I ask?
Thanks, just seeking answers from people who are more knowledgeable in these things:beer:
