also my girls won't eat yoghurt with "bits" in. How do I add flavour without bits?

    I have that make.

Take one pot of yorhurt, a small cartoon of uht milk and 2 table spoons of dried milk.

Mix together and pour into the jars.

Set to the highest setting and put on as you go to bed and turn off when you get up.

    Hope that helps:o

    Hi Garret,

Have a look at this thread where there are lots of ideas for flavourings without bits: Flavoured HM yoghurt.

I use a Yoguella type yoghurt maker. Never tried FunkyFairy's start from cold overnight version, but my way is to put the yogurt maker on with the empty jars to pre-warm, while they are getting warm I zap 1ltr UHT milk for 3.5mins in the microwave to warm it to yogging temperature (i've a yoghurt thermometer but a cooking thermometer would do) I stir in a couple of tablespoons of dried skimmed milk (to make it a bit thicker) and a couple of tablespoons of starter yoghurt (from my last batch or a plain live yoghurt, (Lidl's probiotic is fine, Muller healthy balance works well, Onken bio plain unset) I prefer a probiotic but a bioyog is fine. The skimmed milk powder and starter are stirred in and then poured into the pre-warmed jars and left for 4 hrs. then straight in the fridge.

Sorry for commandeering your thread Domestic Goddess:o
  • no worries, Dh doesn't want me to get a yoghurt maker says it will be a waste, but my youngest has the Munch Bunch drinking yogs and goes through 4 in a day, so I want to make drinking ones mainly, so will go ahead and buy a yoghurt maker I need to reduce our grocery bill too high IMO

    Thanks all

I got given a yoguella machine earlier this week and have been experimenting with it and think I've actually managed to produce yoghurt that might be ok - the first lot ended up like cottage cheese.

I've just got one question, are you meant to put the jars into the fridge straight away, or let them cool first?

No experience of that particular machine, but in answer to your question, *everything* that you are going to put in a 'fridge should be cooled *first* whether yogurt or otherwise. ;)
