encouragement...

What is wrong with me? I run a small business (doing ok, could be better) and I'm also a nurse working on and off for a nursing agency. The agency I work for have been offering me shifts (last-minute) for a few weeks now and the pay is excellent but I just can't seem to motivate myself to accept them. From my previous posts you can see I'm in alot of debt and by accepting the night!!!!s I could be debt free within a few years. The rate is £19.00 per hour and more at weekends therefore for one nightshift I could earn over £200!!!! But I had chronic fatigue a few years back and I think that's what's preventing me from really going for it. I do feel alot better but not 100%, can you all give me a good kick up the backside... If I manage say 2 or 3 per week for the next 3 months, then that's roughly £6-7K!! How good would that be........... please motivate me..

Thanks in advance
Lesley

Have you done the snowball thingy for your debts?

If you put in your current debts/repayments and got a debt free date out of it and then put in the money that you would earn by doing the extra shifts on offer and saw the difference in your debt free dates that might help.

I would be interested to know the difference in the dates anyway!

    Good luck!:D

KICK!! Hi LesleyYou should take one night at a time, see how you go, yes paying your bills is important but not if it is gonig to affect your health. I think what you need to look at is why you suffered from fatigue is it because of the original debt?. If so then work your socks off and get rid of.If I could earn that much per night my Husband and kids would never see me!Think of how much better off you would be...

Lesley, how about trying just one extra shift a week, or even every two weeks to start with? I've got chronic fatigue myself and would not risk suddenly launching into lots of extra shifts on a regular basis - it's not worth risking a relapse, especially as you say you still don't feel 100%. If you do just one extra shift for a month or two and don't feel any ill-effects, then try adding another one. Whatever you decide to do, good luck hon!

Hi and thanks everyone. I think you're right, I'll do one per week and see how I get on. I really need my sleep so nightshifts don't agree with me at the best of times. But watching my debts decrease will at the same time be beneficial, so I'm gonna do my best to work them. I just wish I had the energy and stamina to really go for it.....

Ivyleaf, how have you helped your fatigue and are you working away?

    Hope to speak soon

Can you expalin to your work about your situation and see how it goes. Maybe like ivyleaf said you can try adding more shifts later on. I do know however that where I work you have to snatch overtime while its offered because if you turn it down then they tend not to offer you it again. I hope this is not the situation for you. Do remeber though that your health is far more important than debt!
  • I wouldnt go crazy, no point being debt free if you are also dead from exhaustion.

And blimin ell nurses earn rather a lot.

Just wanted to say that you need to pace yourself...while extra money great there's no point if you end up exhausted and not able to work at all!! Big hugs...look after you as well as your debt!
