Loan to fund retraining

I am debt free but also job free (no salary) as I am on a gap year. I've decided that I don't want to go back to my old line of work and want to retrain as a self-employed plumber/electrician instead.
This will take about four to six months and cost several £1000, which I don't have. It's not a huge sum and I'd like to borrow it, but wont be earning during this time. I have paid off my house in Surrey and thus far have maintained an excellent credit record.
What are my options ?
