Linguaphone has been around for a long time- my dad still has a huge box of French LPs in the attic from many moons ago- but thankfully they're all on CD now. I used this site last year to buy a 'learn Spanish' course, and I can really recommend Linguaphone if you're after a reputable company with years of experience :)I might be broke but happy but I'd happily not be broke!0 -
The BBC have a huge range of educational cds, videos, dvds etc including language courses which are complemented by programes on Beeb 2 at the most anti-social times (but can be recorded).

You won't save any money though.
If you do find what you're looking for it's worth checking on e-bay or amazon to see if you can buy it cheaper.0 -
Pimsleur language courses are excellent.
Our library has several and they do some quite unusual languages not just french, spanish, german and italian. I think they have a web site but you'd have to google for it.0 -
I found Michel Thomas the best. I just play his cds in the car.
In Spanish, for example, he gives you loads of confidence by showing you that you alreaady know thousands of Spanish words by simply changing word endings tion becomes cion etc.0 -
I bought "101 Languages of the world" by Transparent. It includes 4 CD-Roms and cost £29 in WH Smiths. The first one I bought I had to take back because the 4th disc wouldn't load. This new one I haven't taken out of the box yet, so can't tell you how easy/difficult it may be. Bargain though at £29! ::)

I also have learnt languages using the Michel Thomas method. Top marks from me - but it may not suit everyone.
My top tip for getting hold of his courses is to obtain them from your local library. Mine only charged £1.50 for a month's borrowing! Of course, if you had the inclination and means to copy them whilst on loan . . . . . . ;D0 -
On Thursday 20th, Lidl have 4 CD sets & book for French, German & Spanish at £4.99.
No idea about what they are like but for that price it may be worth a shot.0 -
I'm doing the Pimsleur French. Cheapest way is to borrow them from your Library.0

savapoint are offering a range of titles free (with any purchase) loads of stuff on there in their clearance and January sale sections, loads of software titles for a couple of pounds. It might be worth a look.
