I had an Xmas job at Argos while at Uni. We did team activities, like redesigning the catalogue cover - to see how you work in a team..are you a leader of a wall flower etc. Also, we had to put catalogue numbers into bumerical order. Rather easy and pleasant. Keep "customer service" in mind...if a product is out of stock, suggest an alternative/offer to check and reserve at another store etc.
You'll be fine. It's not scary!"It's official, MSE's harbouring total fruitcakes">^..^<0 -
Thanks.
I just like to know whats going on before I get there so I have an idea of what to expect. Im kinda not looking forward to it purely cause its so hard to stand out in these group sorta things.0 -
At my interview there was about 12 people. To start off we had to talk to the person next to us and then introduce them to the group.
Then in small groups we had to do the design a superhero task which I think has been mentioned in another thread. After that we had to feed back to the other groups.
It was nowhere near as bad is it sounds, I would almost go as far as saying it was fun! The point is that everyone contributes but also lets other people have their turn. It might not be obvious to everyone, so if you get left alone with your group just have a quiet word with them to make sure they understand this.
Don't be afraid to just dive in and make the first move, that's what I did! I drew most of the picture but I listened to other people's ideas and asked for their opinions, we just had a bit of a giggle and didn't take it too seriously. When feeding back to the group, everyone should just try to say a little bit instead of just having one person speaking.
Anyway, they offered me a job on the same day and I've been rejected from worse places!0 -

This happened to a friend too. Also had to tell the group what 3 items they would take to a desert island and to sort catalogue numbers into order.

Thanks. I am dead nervous as Ive been looking for months for any form of job and don't seem to be getting anywhere and its only recently Ive been getting into the interviews and so far still no job. Only had one group sorta interview before and that was Debenhams and it was okay but I knew in it I had no chance of getting the job and so I relaxed more when was there.0 -

I was terrified, I just didn't let it show! When I was younger, I was very shy and always worried about what people thought, I would have hated to talk in front of a group of people. Since then I've had more practice so it doesn't really bother me as much. I went in with the attitude of "Stuff it, I really need this job and I'm going to whatever I need to do".
You should never expect not to get a job. Every interview is an opportunity. It doesn't matter if you are nervous, try and remember that you won't be the only one and have a good stab at it. Doing some research on what to expect really helped me too. Good luck!0 -
I was really really shy when was younger but got better once I had left school and went to college and uni. I always try my best in interviews but just so far not having any luck and I'm getting sick of rejections as I always wonder what else I could of done to actually do better.
Superhero if they asked me that Id have NO clue.
Do you get a interview one on one aswell or is it just all group?0 -

I got rejected after a group interview at Tesco and I'd much rather work at Argos. Also had interviews that I thought went really well and still got a rejection. I know people say it's all good practice but it does start wear you down and knock your confidence. Just remember that the interviewers don't know how many other interviews you've had. Wipe the slate clean and forget about everything that has happened before.
There was no one on one, just an exercise on matching numbers up and putting them in order. And they asked a few questions to the group as a whole like double checking that no one was afraid of heights, had holidays booked, things like that.
If you get that task it doesn't matter what you draw, ours was ridiculous. They just want to see how you work as a group. We did get to look in the catalogue for ideas and based it loosely around a character. You might get a different task so don't get too hung up on it.0 -
Yeah you are right it does knock your confidence but you are right in that they wont know how many or few you have had so just to give it your all. Ive never worked (and Im 22 now) so Im just really wanting some form of experience so Im not bothered where I work right now just to have something.
If theres no one on one side of it I guess that makes it a bit easier. I guess I'll just have to see how it goes.0 -
For anyone who is interested... I got the job. Start induction of Tuesday. Thanks to all who posted.0
