Debt free by 30!!

Hello All,

I've been reading this site for a while now, have used alot of the tips and things are definately better than they were (ie. I have finally walked away from the credit card and am dealing with my debts), but it feels like it's going to take so long to pay it all off so thought starting this diary may be a good way of keeping focused and sorting it all out. :j

After a few years of burrowing head in sand and generally being able to pay mim payments and not worrying about the debt I was getting into, I am now 14,000 in the red :eek:! Have decided that it's time to sort it out, am 26 so want to be completely debt free by 30.

Brought a house last year which definately made the debt worse, but feel like if I can get control of it now then I have a good chance of paying it off but really need to change my attitude to money and spending in general :o so I'm hoping that this site may be able to give me a bit of encouragement to be alot more sensible with my money!

My debts are as follows:
Virgin card - £4080
Barclays card - £700
Loan 1 -3428
Loan 2 6243

Total debt - 14452:eek:

any suggestions would be appreciated! I've got a flatmate now and am trying to use most of the rent towards debts, it's the virgin card that is mostly worrying me as it's over the limit now and getting more difficult to meet mim repayments, any advice gratefully accepted! xx

Hello there! I'm no expert on what to do if you are over your credit card limit, but you should fill out and post a SOA here , you can find it at this address http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html and post back the results. Then the smart people on here can see what you are up to with your ins and outs. Good luck

    Hi

Welcome to diaryland! I started a diary a couple of months ago and it's really helped keep me on the straight and narrow. I'm quite sure I'd have gotten a bit bored with all the extra things I'm doing to save/make money by now without it, but because I've written down my plans and what I want to achieve, I feel like I have no choice but to get on and do it.

I know what you mean about buying a house. Getting the deposit and fees etc is only the first step, then you have to furnish it, maybe do work on it (even just paint and brushes can really add up!), buy curtains etc, etc...it goes on and on really. Well done on getting a lodger, a bit step in the right directions :j I'd like to do that when my house is done up aswell.

Best of luck and keep posting
