I have this problem as well having a lab that loves water the dirtier the better! We have a combined washer and dryer and in this weather I tumble the towels and bedding then give the machine a real good hoover and a quick wipe with diluted bleach after ....... works for me! Hope this helps.

PS Obviously after I had washed them LOL (those hairs in the machine are a real pain.)

I always do them before the regular boil wash, never caused any problems (vacuum/shake them out first gets the fluff off)

Penny, mine gets hairy & smells a bit woofy sometimes when I have washed his bedding
One day I might be more organised...........

  • I put vinegar in the final rinse (put in the conditioner drawer) and there is never any smell.

As for hairs, I just wipe around the inside of the drum with a damp cloth to get any that are left over but I find most of them make their way onto the glass door and are easily wiped off.
  • I use these velcro balls and the hair sticks to them:

Mind you, I only have 2 small dogs, if you have a big hairy dog you might have to use dozens of them to catch all the hair!

I would keep one old clean towel just to put through the machine after on a quick wash cycle just to catch the dog hairs and give the machine a rinse out.

And I'd clean out the filters at the same time, if the dog really is that hairy.

Put the pet stuff INSIDE a pillow case and the hairs won't go anywhere.
    They are a pain.

I'm the same as Waggle Dancer and use vinegar in the final rinse. The hairs of our two dogs and two cats always end up on the glass door. Just to be sure I always do a jeans wash afterwards :D

I wipe round the machine and door and also put it on a hot wash with nothing in just to be sure - we have 2 hairy, smelly dogs:D
