can I return my artificial Xmas tree to B&Q even though we opened it?

It just looks a bit small and weedy... cost £30 , think we'd rather spend a bit more on a better one in a different store?

We've still got the box an packaging etc, are we allowed do this?

  • if you can get it all back in the box seal it backup nice and neat there is no reason why you cant .

There is no automatic right to return an item to shop, simply because you have changed your mind (I am assuming that you bought it in store and not online). Most shops do allow returns subject to certain conditions, one of which is usually that it is returned in its original packaging and in resaleable condition. Check B & Qs terms and conditions to see what their rules are, but they are within their rights to say no.

Our B&Q are very relaxed about taking things back.

Didn't you see the tree before you bought it? I was in B&Q yesterday and there were samples of all their trees on show. They do vary a lot so it's a big help to see them put together.

If its not faulty then its up to the stores discretion BUT
equally you could argue (if the store got funny ) that the quality was unsatisfactory and not up to the quality expected so then it is 'faulty'
  • I worked on a b and q returns desk for quite a few years, tbh, they would more than likley take it back even if it had sainsburys written on the box!!
but depends on the mood of the person!
    good luck!

  • You should be fine, but just as a comical fact to support the above comment, one of the staff on our returns desk recently took back a lamp which CLEARLY said Dunelm on the box!!! :rotfl:

As long as you go in with a nice attitude you'll be fine.
