happy & nervous about interview with retail shop

:hello:

I have a interview (woohooo) but im a bit worried as I havent got much retail experience  mostly admin work and child care but I have some experience with customer services.

I was thinking would it be an idea to add something onto my cv like willing to gain new skills in retail? Just dont know what to put or say that might help me get the job.

any idea's would be greatful

Congratulations on the interview. If I was you I would focus on the skills that you do have which are also relevant to retail work - such as good interpersonal skills, communications skills - especially ability to communicate with wide range of people, experience of working under pressure, hardworking, punctual, reliable. Also worth saying that you are a fast learner, welcome opportunity to learn new skills, etc.
  • When going for a job you've not much experience in, they'll be looking on how well you can demonstrate 'transferable skills' in the interview.

As someone that's worked in various retail outlets, I would say qualities employers look for are:-

    -Flexibility
    -Willingness to learn new skills
-Ability to work both alone, or as part of a team
-Passion and knowledge of the product you're selling
    -Good customer service skills/telephone manner

Hope this is of some use to you!

As for no retail experience - you never been shopping? Think about when you felt good about a shopping experience and what made you feel that way. Was it the friendly staff who served you with a smile and a cheery 'thanks for shopping with xxxxx. Think how you like to be treated when you are paying for your goods or asking for some help to find a product.

We all have retail experience in one way or another which can benefit you if asked a situation question.

*edit* - forgot my manners - Good luck and just be natural
