there's also librivox.org (think that's right anyway - google Librivox), who provide free audiobooks of public domain works. These are all read by volunteers, and you can also sign up to read if you are interested. Quality varies as some readers are better than others, but some are great.0

If you have an iPod Touch, or an iPhone, try downloading the free Stanza app from the App Store; it's a eBook reader with links to various sources for both free and paid for books; the former are mostly the free 'Classics' (i.e. Out of copyright or public domain) but if you dig around, there are some interesting surprises!

Thank you so much for the link for free e-books.

Thanks again everyone for sharing info with us x:)0 -
If you want to convert books between different formats then have a look at the open source software calibre. I have dumped the Sony software in favour of Calibre. The chap who developed it posts regularly on the mobileread site (I posted earlier) and is very good at giving help and applying fixes/suggestions etc.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0

Laura, I jsut wanted to say keep your eyes peeled for money off from waterstones and WHS websites, they have good discounts from time to time. I too find it a bit daft reading classics on such a modern gadget, I feel like I shoudl be reading booker prize nominations etc. and being more up to date
recently WHS had a half price sale and I got 6 books for £22. bargain I thought. still waiting for The Lost Symbol to go below £6 though...0 -
