'Should bankers' bonuses be stopped?' poll discussion

@PhiltheBear
Agree with you completely.
It's also worth noting that banks deal with money, that's their primary product. If a trader makes £10million profit for his company he's going to get a slice of that at the end of the year, even at 5% that's a cool £500,000
Money talks in the banking world and unfortunately no matter how much people complain and envy such huge wads of cash - it will never ever change.Can I afford to buy? Mortgage Affordability Calculator

I firmly believe that all remuneration (+expenses/etc) should be openly published/available for everyone. This would bring about the much needed transparency that is required for conducting business ethically. When somebody tries to hide their expenses/etc, that should indicate signals pointing to perhaps criminal intentions.
Let them pay themselves whatever they want. When colleagues or subordinates or shareholders or taxpayers find out, and ask for justification, that would be ample policing built-in.Look after your pennies, and your pounds will look after themselves!0 -
Banks Should be Banks, that means people save and borrow through these institutions and not speculate or gamble in the casino economy. I don't need the services of barrow boys to tell me how to allocate my surplus cash. Anyone who thinks these people know what a real investment is, delude themselves. For example the present rise in stock exchange fortunes is down to the extremely low interest rate not the collective wisdom of stock brokers. If people want to speculate and suffer the vagaries of the market then let it be on their heads but when it comes to imperiling our currency from irrational speculation then that should not be allowed. Therefore take the market out of Banking.0

i feel that the banks that have been bailed out by the taxpayer dont deserve any kind of bonus. but yet they still do and i wonder how much of the taxspayers money goes on bonuses which are then for personal use.

I work for the government and work my hardest and I never get a bonus or even a letter of thank you every year and to top it all off the government are in talks about stopping a pay rise next year for us!
How dare they!!!
Why should they get a bonus each year for just going to work and doing their job???? I don't!!!!Kind of sums up public sector mentality. If you don't like it why don't you get out?
I went and thought about this and been wondering if it would be ok to spread out the bonus instead of making annual commitments to the bankers? Because in some cases what we've seen is short term profits which turned out to be long term losses, I don't know.0 -
I can't believe people are voting "No Bonuses!"
Yes in a perfect world perhaps this would be right!
But the world is not perfect!
If Britain banned bonuses then all the traders would just go elsewhere.
Our economy is heavily dependent on the City of London.0
