I need 2 x cheap laptops

I was wondering if anyone can help me.

I am posting on behalf of a friend who has two young(ish) children who are wanting laptops for Christmas.

The children are wanting to go online and play on games etc, so it does not need to be high spec or fancy. The laptops need to be wireless.

Is it possible to get two laptops for less than £400, they can be refurbished and like I said don’t need to be high spec.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

In the original spec you wanted to go online and play games, do you want to play proper up to date games or simple web based games, like cards (or as they're children, something wholesome like tetris)? Reason I ask is if you go cheap you won't get any of the modern games or even recent (last year or two) to run well, you'll be better off getting a games console for that.

That said, if its just for web browsing and doing a bit of homework on then cheap will probably suffice. Although where laptops are concerned, if something goes wrong outside of warranty it's usually an uneconomical repair and so you might as well junk it (unless you go down the sale of goods act...). I've had great experience with HP laptops and will replace the one I'm on now (Gateway) with an HP in the new year.

Its web-based stuff - cbeebies etc, not actually games you buy, they have DS and wii's for that lol.

its going looking for homework and bits like that really. she wants something that is decent i.e. refurbed to have a bit of protection but also something reasonably cheap.

Curry's are good for laptops, I shopped around the usual places eg PC World, laptosdirect.co.uk and eventually went to Curry's where they reduced the sale price by £30 on a display model (was already reduced but I thought I'd ask for more), so I paid £399 for a £499 model.

My advice is avoid Acer and go for Dell - it's worth paying that bit more.

My eldest daughter asked santa for a pink computer for christmas and youngest wanted a red one. So santa popped into PC World and if he bought 2 netbooks would he get a discount. Straight away he was offered £15 of each dell netbook and a free bag each.

    Christmas sorted in our house.

Slightly over your budget but new and easier for them to take in the car and watch films on.
