Extra Duty on DVD's!

Rather taken aback on when Seinfeld DVD (£44 inc postage)I'd ordered on Amazon arrived.

Postcard put through letterbox informing me I had to collect in person from central office as Duty to be paid.

I work mornings and collection point only opens 'till 12.30 - so had to take an hour off work :-/

When I finally got there had to pay £8 duty plus an extra £4 to the Post Office :(

So final cost to me £56 +£3 travel costs +£9 in lost wages >:(

Another puzzler, it was postmarked as being sent from Germany - so why all the extra duty ???
...the north will rise again...

  • Anything posted to you from outside the EU is subject to duty and VAT if it's worth more than £18. I'm assuming you bought this from Amazon.com rather than Amazon.co.uk, so it would have been being shipped from the United States. The cheapest way of shipping items from the US is often for it to go via courier to a European gateway country and then onwards via surface mail.
