Hi all,
Does anybody know what I can do about a garage I rented that leaked so badly, I had to dump nearly half the contents (books and magazines - some irreplaceable) which cost me a lot of money to buy.
I rented this garage because I wanted a dry garage and paid £286 every quarter for nearly two years.
The only reason I discovered the water logged damage was because I had decided to move my goods to a garage nearer to my house.
The roof of the garage has all but caved in with the rain and is bowed in places, currently held in place with some wood the owner put there. The ground is soaking wet and most of my boxes were rotten as were the books in them. I had no reason to go to the garage in those two years so knew nothing of the damage until recently.
Now the owner is trying to get more money from me (for the extended month it has taken to clean up the mess). Furniture was rendered useless with damp, as were office tables and other expensive items.
Would I be right to counter claim for the damage caused to my goods? I can take photos of some of it but most of it just disintegrated when we tried to move it.
Thanks guys,
The Kat

Was it specifically rented to you as a weatherproof structure or merely as a secure area or was this never even discussed?0
