After reading your latest post I second that
I would write a letter to the manager, outlining the situation and basically call his son a thief (but word it better than that

Do they keep a log book of things that you buy?
If not then tell them tough0 -

Are you working to a budget which allows you to put money aside for baby food (an essential item)? Why is this? This seems to me to be far serious than the £4 you lost from this useless retailer.
Sit down, work out a budget. Include an amount for the baby's essential costs; food, nappies, child care etc. These are not luxuries.
Forgive me if I have got the wrong end of the stick here. If this was an isolated case, then best not shop there again; they can't be trusted.0 -
There is the possibility it has been a genuine mistake, maybe the guy who took your money was too rushed to realise it was for the tab or forgot and is now too embarassed to say. Tact is your best friend

I'd go down the CCTV route and speak to the owner. It's not vey nice though is it? When I worked in a shop we couldn't give anyone credit at all, even the regulars.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

No , we do have a budget which works really well- on one occasion my o.h was working away and i'd lost my cash card..the other time the cashpoint nearby was broken, so I got the milk on credit and paid once i'd gotten the chance to go into town.
Thanks for all the advice, i'm going to go in and try and get them to believe me, and take it from there.

in this instance I would ask them to check their figures for cashing up against what they sold for the day, there would be a discrepancy in their figures sales against money cashed up.
if no joy with that avoid the shop as much as possible

is it worth trying to reason with the owner and saying look, i've been a regular in here for x years, why would i stiff you for £4 and face the inconvenience of going to another shop, further away in future? with any luck he won't want to lose your custom (yeah, right!). but at the end of the day he can't prove you didn't pay it any more than you can prove you did.
in that case, i'd say, well, it was nice shopping with you, it's a shame you don't believe me, and goodbye.0 -
Well..it gets better and better..
I went in and the owners son was there..he said, look I did take that money, and forgot about it, can I give it to you, and you bring it in to my dad or uncle later and pretend it was your mistake
I said..hell no...in disbelief..
wish i'd taken his bloody money and then stiffed him back..
so any advice what to do now?Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0
