Work disciplinary

Hoping someone can give me some advise.

My friend has been off work sick for quite sometime on full pay. During the postal strikes she was still sending in her sick notes via normal post.

She has recd a letter yesterday telling her that she had a disciplinary last week - she had no notification of this. As she did not attend they have deciede to give her a verbal warning regarding the fact that her sick not arrived late.

How does she stand regarding this??

She is has just handed in her notice to go to another job, her existing employer told her they would not do a reference untill they had her resignation. It seems that someone in her employers HR dept is taking it personally ???

Many Thanks

She needs to refer to the company's disciplinary procedure. there should be an appeals procedure where she would have the chance to put her side of the story, ie sick notes sent in and delayed by post, notice of disciplinary not received for saem reason.

i would say its down to the company to ensure a notice of any meeting requiring attendance is sent via a trackable method
