Keeping a dog in the garden.

I remember seeing ads for some sort of device that would keep a dog in a garden.
I think it was some sort of wire buried along the boundry of the garden, has anybody seen or heard of these ? IF so any idea where I could get one ?

Please think very carefully about using such a device.
Are you aware these devices use STATIC ELECTRICITY as a punishment to your dog for entering the so called 'correction zone'. Have you ever experienced repeated electric shocks? Would you use such a device on your child? So why use it on a dog?
What happens when the dog, so driven by whatever makes it want to leave the area contained by the system (maybe chasing? Maybe seeking social interaction - could be a number of things) has sated itself, and now wishes to return home - it can't, because each time it approaches the area from the other side (where there is no 'warning beep') it gets zapped.
If you need to contain your dog - why not fence a small area? Failing that, why not restrain your dog with a body harness and a line which is secured? Better still, why not find out what is lacking in your dogs life that he wants to seek it out elsewhere, and provide it for him under your control, who knows, you may even find he wants to stay with you as you have become his new best friend?
If you need advice on training your dog without using such methods (which are actually under review by government, and could even be made illegal - now that would be a waste of money wouldn't it?) try contacting a Association of Pet Dog trainers at http://www.apdt.co.uk/index2.htm
HTHPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -

Hi
What sort of dog do you have? We got one of these for our springer and it didn't work - he didn't appear to notice it he is so hyper. We have fenced him into his own run now instead. The radio fence was nearly £200 wasted.
It may work with a small docile dog though.0
