Skills Train Loan

Hi all and thanks to anyone taking the time to read this post.

My situation.
In June 08 I signed up for a Skills Train course in web design, financed through Skills Train with Barclays.
In my eyes I was missold the course as I was told (verbally) that the course was web based, so I imagined it to be interactive and learned through video's etc.
Instead I was sent a book to learn from and then you submit your answers on their website to be marked. This method of learning is not good for me as i struggle to absorb words from a book.

Anyway, I haven't bothered with the course other than the first 3 or 4 parts and all I have received from Skills Train is one book, access to their website to submit answers and a laptop bag.... The rest of the books are released when you complete the previous one.

The loan taken out is for around £2400 paid back over 3 years at £75 per month.

I have spoken to Barclays to ask what would happen if i just stopped the payments and they said they would take it to legal action to recover the debt as they have released all the money to Skills train.

My next step is to approach Skills Train to see what they say but I would like to know my rights before doing this, so my question is... Do I have any legal rights to a refund of the money from Skills train on a course that I was (verbally) missold when I have received next to nothing from them?

Comments

  • How did you sign up for the course?
There is no way a finance agreement would have been done over the phone so I'm guessing that there is paperwork somewhere.

Unless you can prove that the course is not as described you will be liable for the loan.
No point in contacting Barclays it is the course people who you need to speak to.
  • Yes i do have paperwork for the loan and the course and the verbal description of the course was given by a representitive who visited my house... the loan etc was signed up for on the night.

I do realise that proving I was missold the course will be almost impossible but...

Is there any chance of pursuing them on the basis that I have effectively laid out £2400 and received 1 book and 1 laptop bag

I'm guessing I will just have to bite the bullet and put it down to experience
  • My opinion - no sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear.
