If you have a SC, a joint of lamb with barley, peas, lentils, onions, carrots and celery turns out lovely.

Do you know, I purchased a SC only 2 weeks ago. Not had much success with it so far. Mainly because it's a 5.5l and I don't think i've been filling it enough and everythings burnt  Don't think i'll have a problem filling it now lol.

Recipe I use for lamb shank but have successfully substituted shoulder for it (same would apply to small leg joints): Fry lamb to brown, remove then fry sliced leeks, cubed parsnip and sliced carrot then add pint of stock and 2 tbsps of Worcestershire sauce. Transfer to casserole and push lamb down on top. I cook this in oven for 2/3 hours but it would probably work in slow cooker. The vegetables taste absolutely delicious and meat falls off bone. If you wanted could add potatoes or mushrooms too. Personally I serve with something green.

Well I have to say that roast leg of lamb was probably the most delicious I have ever tasted. Lots left over for another roast in the week and probably a shepherds pie for 2 meals as well. Am even more pleased with my bargain now.

Would you believe me if I said Makro?! I've been shopping there ages and only spotted it yesterday. They'll butcher it how you want as well, but the one I found had already been done.

Worked out to just over £3 per kilo! (on the bone)

wow good for you, I don't think we have a makro near us otherwise I'd be investing. We treated ourselves to a piece of lamb this week from morrisons but we don't usually buy it because it's just too expensive and although I've experimented with cheaper cuts of pork and beef, I'm yet to go there with lamb.

    Enjoy you lamb :D

I get a whole lamb from a local farmer sometimes, he has kids in the Youth ORchestra that ours go to. The only problem is that he has orders for more than he can supply, so my name doesn't come up very often.

The first time I had one I lobbed all the scruffy looking bits in a pot with carrots onions and potatoes, salt, pepper, bayleaf and some water. Low oven. WHen the children came in from school they had the most beautiful lamb stew. So simple, so few ingredients and so delicious. Just dished it up into bowls.

Economy Gastronomy had good suggestions for Bedrock recipes and follow up recipes for both shoulder and leg of lamb.

The nicest, more unusual recipe I know for lamb is "lamb ragu puttanesca". I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post direct links on here but if you google it, it's there.

It's lamb shanks braised in tinned tomatoes, olives, capers, white wine and then shredded to make a ragu sauce to serve over pasta. It seems to produce a very tangy, delicious sauce with very little effort and makes the lamb stretch a long way. I have also used it with shoulder rather than shanks which makes it even cheaper. It's easily doubled or trebled and fantastic to pull out of the freezer and reheat if you want a quick meal.

ok - are the unidentified pieces of lamb on or off the bone? if on the bone can you scrape the meat off? if so - mince it! unless they look like steaks - in which case treat as steaks!!!
lamburgers!!! gorgeous just make as for beefburgers (i like to add a little chopped mint or rosemary.
    moussaka - recipes anywhere online
shepherds pie - again recipes anywhere online.
or you can use it like minced beef but if making gravy with stock cube use a lamb or veg stock cube (think beef stock cubes make it taste weird)
you can also stir fry lamb mince with veg of your choice - nice with pak choi and the holy trinity of stir frying ginger garlic and soy sauce!
almost any recipe you can do with beef you can substitute lamb.
oh - and welsh lamb is the best in the world! not that i am biased!!!!!!!!!!!
