Family Tree Maker 2010 with Tesco rewards

I posted months ago for the 2009 version, but Tesco clubcard rewards' "Software" section now offers Family Tree Maker 2010 Platinum edition for £15 in clubcard points (and it comes with a 6-month free membership to Ancestry.co.uk included which normally costs £10.95 a month). Amazon has it for £29.99 (when I ordered the token for it with clubcard vouchers a week or two ago, Amazon had it for £50, so the price took a drop recently! I then sent the token off to receive the program midweek and it arrived today -- nice fast turn-around for anyone who wants to give this as a Christmas gift). The Amazon link will give you more info about the program than the Tesco site will.
I went ahead and upgraded to the 2010 version as this is a great program, and the link-up with Ancestry that automatically merges info into your tree is great. Anyone with loads of extra points from all those Tesco Entertainment pre-orders might want to use them on this program.

Thanks, skibster.
I ordered the voucher for this yesterday but was wondering just how good it was.
Glad to hear it's a great deal.

I've been using the 2009 version for months and it's really a great way to organize all your information and photos (and find more online). It's so easy to use, too. I couldn't resist upgrading to 2010 since I could get it with vouchers, even though my "old" version wasn't that old, lol!0 -
How annoying is that....
I got 2009 version a month ago from PCWorld when it was on special offer £29.99....half price presumably due to the imminent release of 2010 version.
So how annoying is it that 2010 is only £29.99 now anyway, even though it was only released a month ago!
Have just spent my clubcard vouchers yesterday, too.....:mad:0 -
Would this be suitable for someone who is interested in finding out about their family history, but doesn't know where to start?
All DH's family are dead, but he has shown an interest in finding things out, he has no photo's or for example does not know where his grandparents are buried...
Would he be able to find things like this out with this package, or is this for someone who already knows a fair bit about their history?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -
you need to work from what you know so far , parents marraige for example and then work back , ancestry is useful but you need to buy marraige certificates for parents names etc
there is a long running research your family tree thread on here somewhere

You need to have a little something to go on. You can find quite a bit on Ancestry, but you need at least some names/birth dates/places to go on. I've found some very interesting things that no one in the family knew, but I needed a bit of starting info to help find those things (and to help me verify that I had the right person).
For instance, if you know your grandparents full names, when and where they were born (roughly), the names of their children, you've got something to go on. If you know a little bit about your great-grandparents, that will help you verify you are on the right track as you get going. If you know nothing at all, you need to do some research. I haven't delved into anything yet that I haven't been able to springboard to based on info family has given me as a starting point. I've found out quite a lot that was lost/unknown though.
You may want to look into Family Tree magazine to help with ideas on how to find information. I've not used this, but it may help -- you get your first three issues free if you subscribe with the code or card or whatever that comes with the Family Tree Maker software, or I think you can pay for the full mag subscription with tesco clubcard points -- seems like I saw Family Tree magazine listed in the mags offered on the Tesco Rewards page.0 -

I think you'd need to call to ask. It certainly won't give you a full world membership or even a full UK membership -- it's just for essentials in the uk, which, from what I can tell, basically only gives you access to others' family trees. That actually is a lot of helpful information, but it's a shame the other access is so limited.
You could always wait until your current subscription expires and then sign up six months with the free offering from the software.0 -
Glad I've spent so long getting around to ordering this now. Sometimes dithering pays. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0
