Body Shop bargains

I wasn't previously a big fan of the Body Shop, I had avoided it for a few years now as I thought it was all a bit overpriced and hyped. But I recently had a Body Shop At Home catalogue foisted upon me, and after browsing through I was pleasantly surprised.

So, I went into my local store to have a look at some make-up, something I needed anyway. I had a very comprehensive consultation with a lovely assistant, she gave me a full demo and I was happy to buy what I needed as i was impressed with the product. We chatted away and I explained why I had come back to the shop as well as about their new ranges. (There is a point to me saying all this, it might have been the reason I got what I did! Though I doubt it.)

So, I bought some Minerals foundation and a brush for £14.98 each. I got a free lip gloss (free with two purchases of make-up, price £9+). For some reason I also got a free full-sized Coconut Oil Shimmer Body Butter (price £12.50). I think it was a spend over ?? and get a free Body Butter. I don't know when these run out, so it's worth checking.

Since I was also talking about other products I also got a sample size of a facial wash and toner that the assistant thought would suit my skin. They're only tiny, but plenty there to use and see if it's any good. While I was there, another woman came in to talk about shampoo and I watched another assistant give her a sample size, and she didn't make any purchases at all. They have tiny sized empty bottles at the back and fill up from the 'Try Me' bottles in the store. It's not much, but it's still a freebie! And it is a really good way of not wasting any money on rubbish products. (and I can refill the nifty little bottles when I go away!) She also gave me a sample of a cranberry body butter as I said I liked all the Christmassy smells!

I also joined their club, which means you get 10% off everything for a year. It's £5 but with the 10% off the products I was buying I only paid an extra £2. There are all kinds of benefits, but one of them is a free £5 product on your birthday, so even without buying anything further it pays for itself. There's a 30% off event coming up in Nov so I'll benefit from that too (with buying things I already needed).

So, at the till I spent £31.98, got over £20 worth of free full-size products, plus three free samples, and the prospect of lots of further reductions and a freebie or two!

Marvellous :T

  • Not stepped in body shop since it was all the rage when i was at school! lol Hmmm... Dewbury mist lol and like you thought now that it might be a little out of my prices range for certain things! Been hearing a few stories lately about body shop! And so was thinking of buying the club card thing! Also good to hear that you can get little samples to try before you buy! Good Idea for people like me who have'nt shopped there for a few years! How do you know what lil samples you can try do they have a sign or something??

    Thanks
  • I agree! I thought it was still all White Musk, but was really impressed (and I don't impress easily). I didn't think prices were too bad (but does depend on perspective). The sample thing isn't advertised anywhere, which why I thought I'd post about it! They have little bottles behind the till, and I think if you express an interest in something they offer you a sample and fill it for you. So I presume it's anything with a 'Try Me' bottle on the shelf.
I'm sure you can always ask as well!

I went into the Body Shop in Birmingham Bull Ring yesterday and was impressed. Haven't been in for years and I am glad that the Banana Shampoo and Conditioner is back. I used to buy that. It's £3.99 for a fairly large bottle, but think I will have to hide it, because at that price I don't want everyone else using it.

Will have to keep an eye out for any samples available though. :j

  • Is the 30% off event only for those who have signed up for the £5 card or is it for anybody? I was going to buy my friend a White Musk giftset for Christmas so would be good if I could get it cheaper!
  • I think it's just for members. But if you sign up for the card it's 10% off at the time, and then you get further gifts the more you buy plus a £5 gift voucher on your birthday. And then you'd get the 30% off if you wanted to buy something else for yourself!
There might`be something on their website...
I'm not working for them, I promise!
  • What are the Beauty bargains? Are those products always that cheap or do they change?

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean by Beauty Bargains....

I expect if you look on the voucher they sent you it will have an expiry date on it.

On the body shop's website, amongst the offers are "beauty bargains" which seem to be cheaper than usual products. For instance, the body butters are normally about £12 for a 200ml pot, under "beauty bargains" there's a pomegranate 200ml for £6.10. I was just asking, is that product say, normally £12?

Sorry, btw, I just realized your thread is about the highstreet shops, not the online shops:o
