Haggling

My mobile contract ran out a couple of days ago so today was spent haggling

Current situation

O2, 20Pm 50 mins, 200 txts
Average Used 60 mins 130 txts

I rang O2 retentions first and asked for a better deal,
upshot
14 a month, same contract + samsung Z320i for £70

Said id think about it (total cost of contract 238)

Am planning on selling phone, which is going for around 220+ on ebay

Then I rang Orange, they offered me

100 mins
150 texts
sony ericsson W810i, for 20 a month (total cost - 240)

Went back with this and O2 offered me the same deal but with a Sony Erricsson 40 (*edit 14 a month)

Total cost £208s

Phone again worth 220+ on ebay :)

So once i get that flogged ill have a free year of mobile use ;)

How evil am i!

OH has started haggling in shops, and Im surprised at how favourable the responses are. I have the typical british approach to haggling, OH doesnt have the reserve :) He has got a few quid knocked off terracotta plant pots, and other plants, and quite a lot of bits & pices we needed.

I cant wait for my phone to come up for renewal, and get out of this contract Ive got :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Lol im not great at haggling, yet, but its practice, the more you do it, the better you get.

I dont think i did great, but i stayed calm, explained id been looking around, had other offers, which probably did some difference

I love haggling with mobile phone providers - just so easy!

I too renegotiated my O2 contract this month. I got the new W810i for £30 and a talk plan of 200 crossnet minutes per month and 500 texts for £15 a month (the standard charge for this package is 30 a month so I'm told). For my usage that is bargainous.

I always play them off against the other but O2 Online has consistently been the cheapest for me. Has to be the online service though - you don't get quite as good a deal through the shops or their usual callcentres. Best to speak to retentions rather than upgrades too as they can cut you a better deal.

Is your contract 30 a month?

I dont think my deal is bad because I can easily stick within those limits the one above was too many

Don't know about the usage - last year I upgraded to the sony ericsson 750i for free and paid £20 a month - I very rarely go over my minutes (maybe twice last year and even then only by 2 or 3 quid).

Just about playing a game with them - play it cool and say you want your PAC code as you are *going* to orange or whatever... I always play dumb and reluctant but I don't know why they bother trying to keep me - hardly the most profitable customer!

Am I missing something in this bit? 40 a month - 208 a year? Is there a typo?
