COMPLAINT: ARGOS BRABANTIA 30L TOUCH TOP BIN £24.99 (Half Price)

Hi All,

Advertised in the Argos BIG WINTER SALE catalogue is a BRABANTIA 30L TOUCH TOP BIN for £24.99 (was £49.99 - Half Price). The advert displays the Brabantia logo and the text actually reads "BRABANTIA 30L TOUCH TOP BIN" - item #840/7409

I reserved online to collect in store and popped along to my local Argos. I paid for the item and was given a ticket for collection.

On receiving my item, I inspected the box and discovered the pictured bin was not a Brabantia. I asked the assistant to check as there seemed to be a mistake.

It turns out the BIG WINTER SALE catalogue is incorrect and the sales assistant should have told me this before paying for the item - I only discovered this on collection of the item - very dissappointing and a wasted journey. There was not online about this fault when I reserved either.

Where do I stand on this? I was issued a refund but ideally wanted a brabantia 30L bin at the advertised price (unfortunately only Argos Direct sells these rather than my local store). Should I send an email to Argos making complaint about the false advertising?

Look forward to hearing your thoughts

Cheers,

BoroSupporter82

What does your receipt say? Does that refer to a Brabantia bin?
    Gone ... or have I?

could try complaining may be lucky and might let you have one at price advertised explaining situation that you where never informed it wasn't what was stated, there again they more likely just to offer your money back saying was advertising mistake but cant hurt to try. If not ask them what they will do for wasting your time and petrol etc and i would email customer service head office may offer you refund and some free vouchers cant hurt to try.

I have just bought the exact same bin as you, under the impression I was buying a Brabantia one at a great price. It was only when i got home that I realised that something was amiss and I had ended up with a cheapish looking unbranded one. I rang head office, first time to be told although it was unbranded, it was made by Brabantia!? Not believing it, I rang up again to complain, as it was obvious it wasn't after I looked the item up in the Autumn/Winter catalogue and it wasn't on the Brabantia bin page but on another with unbranded bins. This time I was told it wasn't a Brabantia and I should have been made aware of this when I was paying for it this morning (which i wasn't). I was told to take it back for a refund and ask the manager to see if i could be compensated for my inconvenience and running around( I reserved the bin last week for collection on Tues but it hadn't arrived when I went to pick it up on Tues so it had to be reordered for collection today). I was after a free gift voucher for the hassle of having to go backwards and forwards for a bin that wasn't the one as advertised.

When I went into the store for the 3rd time to get my money back and try my luck for a little compensation for my troubles, the manager apologised and exchanged the imposter bin for a genuine Brabantia at no extra cost! Just checked the website and it should be £74.99 (only actually cost me £14.99 as I used one of the recent promotional gift vouchers from them) so I am a very happy bunny.

I would write to head office to at least get some sort of apology and freebies. Send the cut out out of the brochure too because this proves the printing blunder.

    Good luck
