Does anyone know of any good book review sites or one to compare alternative books?

I’m after a book for my dad and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good review website or one where you can compare books. I think I know the book I’m after but would like to see if there are any others similar to it as well.

Thanks

We tend to check out the reviews on Amazon before we decide to buy.
  • Thanks Francesanne! I'm also trying to see if there are other books too and that's why I want to be able to compare them as well.

I looked at a website that someone on here recommended to me last year but can't remember which one it was. My brother wanted a travel book but I couldn't find what he wanted and this site came up with a book by Bill Bryson as an alternative.

Hi, think it's worth looking at www.Play.Com. We also use them regularly to buy books and DVDs. P&P is included in the price and we've always been VERY happy with their service. Good luck and hope you find the ideal present for your Dad.
  • I still can’t think for the life of me what the name of the website is that compares book. I can only remember typing in the name of the book and author and that it gave a list of recommended books.

Does anyone know which site I mean?
  • Would it be http://bookseer.com/? This seems to be one where you put in a book title and author, and it then comes up with recommended lists from Amazon and Librarything. Never used it before, but Librarything looks interesting.
  • Thanks SundayGirl! It doesn't look like the one that was recommended to me last year but appears just as good if not better.

The book I'm after is a book by Samuel Hearne who was mentioned on Ray Mears' latest program 'Ray Mears Northern Wilderness' and thought my dad would like this as it the kind of thing he likes [explorers that is].

Might get Ray Mears new book too 'Northern Wilderness: Bushcraft of the Far North' for my dad as well.

    Excellent!!

Thanks again and will certainly be adding Book Seer to my favourites. thumbsup.gif
  • www.bookarmy.com..... a booklovers dream.....but be warned it is addictive.
  • Another one! I think I'll have to start giving out gold stars!

    That's great, thanks Victoria!
  • I have used the following very good sites(one or two were recommended on here)

    bookfinder.com

    abebooks.co.uk

    bookfinder4u.com

    Good luck.
  • You get 3 gold stars star.gifstar.gifstar.gif
