i'm trying to decide if i should get a turkey now from tesco while they are on offer but not sure if it would be better to wait and get a fresh one ?
i was also wondering about the size is there a difference in taste i think i read somwhere that bigger ones are dryer that true?

i want to get a big one even though there is only the four of us. i like lots of left overs because its just not xmas if your not sick of turkey by new year hehe..

If it's a whole bird, cook it upside down for most of the time, then turn it back over to brown on top towards the end, this lets the juices run through the whole bird stopping it from drying out :)

Haha, i did that one year, wouldn't fit in the roasting tin! I just get the stuffed joints now, can't be bothered with a whole bird!

    Order a fresh one .
But I do like to see the whole bird on a platter in the middle of the table.

    So you like cold turkey?
I agree it would look fantastic, just like an advert .

But mine will be carved and 'displayed' in bits :rotfl:
in the kitchen , with all the other trimmings. Guests will be given a hot plate
( with a tea towel , to handle it) at the kitchen door and the food is kept hot on three hostess trays plus the hob. Then its help yourself ...... its a bit like a carvery :D

only way to have a hot xmas meal when you cater for eleven.

We have bought a huge fresh, free range one for the last few years from the butcher & would not now go back to frozen ones.

They are very expensive but they taste so much better. We need to order within the next week or so & we will be able to pick up anytime on christmas eve.

We have a fresh one ordered from our butcher cos they taste so much better, even though they are more expensive.

If you're planning on having some for the days after as well (like we do- cold turkey, chips and beans on boxing day :D ) then think of it as a bit of an investment! :rotfl:

They are defo more moist and if you get a free range/organic one they've been fed better and you can defo taste the difference.

    xx
