After the consultation document released recently suggested changing the bankruptcy process so that an application was made to the insolvency service, instead of going to court, would this have made any difference to the perceived stigma and the stress of the process

I think most of the stigma is also self inflicted, my worry was regarding the newspapers and the court. I knew it had to be done but this was the first time I had 'had to go to court' I found this upsetting and frightening, It made me feel like a criminal beforehand.
The reality of it was far from what i imagined..
I do agree with BAT, I feel it will make it even easier to go BR, although that is what some of us want I do feel that it should not be 'easy and stress free'.

Not sure about it , the court bit make no difference to my Br but the judges explain me in details what will happen during BR up to the discharges process. the district judge gave me a very detailed account what Br and the formation given was much more than previous advise i had and what likely will happen in regards to IPA etc ... So in a sense for me it was invaluable . the Judge more or less compare to the american way of BR as a way of protection from creditor rather than stigma attched to it.
althghouh i agree with others that if Br is made by the insolvency services then it will make it less informal and see as an easy way out of your debt .BSC number 1830
