Most people on PAYE never receive a tax rebate as their tax is always correct.

Why do you think you may be due a rebate and who did you phone?

My husband is on PAYE. He went to his accountant in July and we're still waiting for his rebate. His is quite complex though as he used to work abroad. Last year the accountant filed for the rebate in June and we had it by September.
  • It entirely depends on your situation, whether they are missing any information they need to calculate the repayment they will write to you, this will take time. If you have been PAYE for 5 years it is unlikely there is a repayment due as like someone above mentioned, your tax deducted will normally be correct. I would probably not hold out any hope for it to be less than a couple of months to be fair.

Sorry i didnt give enough info,

i have been between jobs (not self employed) for the past 5 years and all of them have been temp/contract which have only lasted about 3 months average. I worked for a bank for about a year and i was paying emergency tax for about 3 months . i have also worked part time where i was taxed emergency tax hevily.

Only recently i found out about the rebate, so i called them and was told that 08/09 i should be getting £550 for last year, but not sure about before that time.

The reason i asked the original question is i have never had a tax rebate and was curious.

    thanks for the replies

  • different offices have different times for a rebate depending on how busy they are. I would expect to wait between 4 to 8 weeks as this is what HMRC aim for.
  • yay i got my rebate last week £500 :). called them up and was told that there are another 4 to come, roll on xmas :)
