Great Refurbished Laptops Deals

Options
We all probably know about the refurbs sold by the Dixons group. However I think I discovered something different recently.

Firstly, let me say that I have bought 2 refurb laptops from them in the last year and have been happy with both, which looked like they were brand new, except for the lack of manuals and a retail box. Both were also great deals, which would have cost more elsewhere.

What I noticed lately is that DSG only update the Dixons Refurb Laptops list regularly. They do not update the Currys and PCWorld's list. When I say this, I mean that they list new stocks in the Dixons site only, here:
http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?page=ProductList&category_oid=-32665&show_all=true&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes

Stocks seem to be updated in the evening around 8/9pm and in the mornings at around 8/9am. There also appear to be a lot of people tracking this link because I missed several good deals ... when it appeared, I googled for reviews, when I went back to buy, they were sold. So, it is best to know exactly what you want before hand and if you see it available, buy it immediately. I suspect some of the people snapping these up so quickly are reselling them as they usually fetch more on ebay.

We got a Dixons refurb HP last year. It has been fine. I think I would always go for a brand with a good rep though - I won't buy Acer new or refurb because of all the problems I have heard about them from friends.

You also need to research what the same model would be new - sometimes it's only £30 or so, in which case refurb isn't such good value. They do sell out quickly, possibly because there is only one or two of the model listed, but new ones come up each week. Best way is to decide what size, spec etc you want first, check reviews, and then look for those types to come up.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Some OK ish deals there but for a few extra quid you can get these new from other shops and sites, new and with full warranty:confused:

Oh, on a side note about Acer, they have recently become the biggest computer selling company in the world passing Dell:confused: I have setup 3 of their laptops for people recently and they look very nice laptops indeed and the price was a lot cheaper than you would pay for an HP/Compaq, Dell etc.... all of which have the same components made in the same factory in China:confused:
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

The best deals would be gone within minutes. You have to keep an eye on it closely. I saw a Compaq CQ60 for £230 last week. A good deal regardless of the specs.
When they are sold, the item remains on the list (with SOLD) status for another day or so. So, you have an idea what you have missed. More often than not, these are the ones which have been the best deals. Those remaining are not so good.
