Yes, it's aluminium that you shouldn't use on it. Cast iron is fine. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

May I ask why? I have a ceramic hob and it never occurred to me that any particular type of pan could or should not be used. Not that I have aluminium pans, just curious.Mortgage

It reacts with the surface and discolours it (though it is only surface discolouration and doesn’t otherwise damage the hob) and is inefficient at transferring the heat from radiant type ceramic hobs and does not heat properly at all with the induction type which need iron or steel to operate properly. You can use them with the radiant type if you use a steel wire/mesh trivet to protect the surface of the hob.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I often use aluminium on mine, almost all my pans are made of it.
It seems to work fine at heating up.If anything they get too hot and you are forced to reduce the heat to almost nothing to save burning.
I have had my hob for 15 years now.
Couldnt say if it discouloured the hob at all though as it is black anyway.
Ceramic hobs dont work well with curved edged pans or anything that has a dent as they need to contact the whole of the bottom of the pan to be efficient.0 -
Yea mine is black but it discoloured the markings which were silverish. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I use a cast iron griddle pan on mine which has been fine...
I don't let my dh use any kind of pan on it though, he has a weird habit of shaking pans on the hob instead of mixing things which drives me mad. Argh...0 -

I use HOBBRITE, you can buy it from Asda (approx £1.60ish) and its a cream that you put on and then scrub with a scourer, wipe off and then buff with some kitchen roll - does the job perfectly, looks like brand new unitl that evening when I use it again ha!0
